What roles are available?

Sabbatical Officers

There are four Sabbatical Officer positions available. Three of these roles are full-time, and one is part-time. They are paid positions with a one year fixed-term contract that runs from 1st July 2021 to 30th June 2022.

2021/22 is looking like a really busy and exciting year already. As a Sabbatical you will be a member of the Union’s Board of Trustees, and have the opportunity to lead and contribute to some amazing activities and initiatives, alongside delivering on your own promises that you made in your Candidate Proposal.

Not only this, but you will also be responsible for supporting the delivery of the 2021/24 Union Strategy and to support the outcomes of the Union’s major Governance Review.

 

What have Officers done before?

Loads! Here’s a few gems:

o   Made the Engine Shed building to be more a more student-friendly space with bean bags and snooker tables

o   Fought for anonymous marking to be the standard for assessments

o   Reinstatement of free printing credits for students

o   Mental health first aid training offered to student groups

o   Use of MUGAS- formalised process for booking MUGAS through the university

o   Sports Dome floor suitable for wheelchair users

o   Arranged rent discounts with local landlords during the summer 2020 lockdown

o   Dedicated space for Postgraduate Research students in Senate building

Sabbatical Officers roles available

  1.        President:

o    To lead the Students’ Union in representing, campaigning for and serving the needs of students at the University of Northampton.

o   In particular, to:

§  Deliver manifesto promises

§  Lead and support the Officer team, chair of the Students’ Union Trustee Board and represent students at UoN Board of Governors

§  Represent student voice to internal committees, the University, NUS and to external organisations

  1.        Vice President Education:

o    To lead the Students’ Union in representing, campaigning for and serving the needs of students at the University of Northampton on educational issues

o   In particular, to:

§  Deliver manifesto promises

§  Lead and support the faculty and course representatives

§  Represent student voice to internal committees, the University, NUS and to external organisations on all educational matters running campaigns where needed

§  Lead the student lead teaching awards 

  1.        Vice President Welfare and Activities:

o    To lead the Students’ Union in representing, campaigning for and serving the needs of students at the University of Northampton on welfare issues

o   In particular, to:

§  Deliver manifesto promises

§  Lead and support student groups

§  Represent student voice to internal committees, the University, NUS and to external organisations on all welfare matters running campaigns where needed 

  1.        Vice President Postgraduate Research:

o   To lead the Students’ Union in representing, campaigning for and serving the needs of students at the University of Northampton on all issues affecting Postgraduate research students

o   In particular, to:

§  Deliver manifesto promises

§  Lead and support the PGR committee representatives

§  Represent student voice to internal committees, the University, NUS and to external organisations on all matters affecting PGR students running campaigns where needed

§  Lead the student lead teaching awards   

 

Part-Time Officers

Working with the Sabbatical Officers on behalf of al our students is our Part Time Officer team; these roles are focussed on addressing issues that apply to different student groups or issues; lobbying the university or a better and more equitable student experience.

Previous Part-Time Officer successes:

o   Sexual harassment training available to student groups (women’s officer)

o   Sunflower lanyard scheme (disabled student officer). Raise awareness and enable support for hidden disabilities at waterside

o   British Sign Language training for student facing university staff (disabled student officer)
