About Swimming

We are the Northampton Student Sport Swimming Club. As a club we are open to swimmers of all abilities whether you wish to compete or just want to swim as a form of exercise. As a committee we vow to ensure that everyone feels welcome to our trainings and we are willing to advise you on how to improve your swimming if you wish to represent us at the two competitions we compete in annually. The swim team compete in the BUCS championship at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield in both the Short Course and Long Course competitions which happen every November and February respectively.

On top of training and competitions the Swimming team hosts regular socials prior to LOCO Wednesdays at the Platform Club. Swimming Socials is a time for competitive and social swimmers to get together, dress up in fancy dress, and enjoy a night out together. Our socials are not exclusively for members of the swimming club and are open to any student that wants to enjoy a night out with a group of like minded individuals. We will also be hosting charity events during the year and two team meals throughout the year for christmas and end of the academic year. Alongside our weekly socials we will also have a daytime social once a term.

Training

The swim team is proud to offer a total of four training sessions a week which are as follows:

Competitive Sessions:

Monday: 20:00-21:00 at Cripps Recreation Centre, Cliftonville Road, Northampton NN1 5BX

Wednesdays: 08:00-09:00 at Cripps Recreation Centre, Cliftonville Road, Northampton NN1 5BX

Thursdays: 21:00-22:00 at Chris Moody Centre, Moulton College, Gate 4, Pitsford Road, Moulton, Northampton NN3 7QL (Lifts provided from Morrisons Car Park)

Fridays: 08:00-09:00 at Cripps Recreation Centre, Cliftonville Road, Northampton NN1 5BX

Social Session:

Thursdays: 21:00-22:00 at Chris Moody Centre, Moulton College, Gate 4, Pitsford Road, Moulton, Northampton NN3 7QL (Lifts provided from Morrisons Car Park)

All sessions are available to those who can swim, however the competitive sessions will be more drill based and there will be a set that will be followed by swimmers that attend the session. Our Thursday sessions that we have on offer we are fortunate enough to have the whole pool available to us, allowing us to accommodate for both competitive and social swimmers.

Our sessions will not be coached but there will be drills and sets for swimmers to follow and use during the sessions provided. Members of the team are coach qualified and will be more than happy to give advice on how to improve your stroke and technique if you wish.

Unfortunately we are unable to teach people how to swim, however our social sessions on Thursdays will be lifeguarded to encourage less confident swimmers to get in the pool and enjoy our sport.
