"As an international student, the scheme gave me a chance to attend social activities and I made new friends there. Also my buddy helped me a lot for both my study and school life. I got quite useful and interesting information from him which promotes me to get to know Britain better."
Buddy Scheme was set up in 2013 to enhance the experiences of new international students who are studying at Northampton. It aims to provide a peer mentoring support structure, which facilitates and encourage greater integration and cultural understanding between 'home' and international students.
The Buddies are can be home or international students. Their role is to support their mentees during their stay in the UK and helping them to settle into British University life. Directing their mentees to find the right support within the University structure (if needed), showing them around Northampton and helping them get involved in the wide variety of activities, sports or societies that are available on campus.
The aim to help all our international students feel at home and part of a wider community, while they study at the University of Northampton.
The Buddy team meet up with their mentees individually, as well as organizing group activities (quiz and pizza nights) or trips around the UK.
We are also here for students that might not necessarily be interested in volunteering or having a mentor; if you are a person that’s just looking for a fun group of people to hang out with we are here also for you!
